About Me
Hi, I'm Emma Brown! I'm a qualified yoga teacher based in Hertfordshire.

I fell in love with yoga many years ago, but my path to teaching wasn't exactly linear. After graduating in 2012, I worked in marketing at a tech start up, before completely switching gears and going to work locally in a school while I dabbled with the idea of teaching. Neither of these roles felt like the right path for me, so I did what many young adults lacking in direction do and decided to travel the world for a while. I went with my then boyfriend (now husband) and it was in a beautiful studio on a beach in South East Asia that I attended my first ever yoga class. I found it intensely challenging - I had never come close to touching my toes, I'd never done a push up let alone a chaturanga, and I'd always had a very busy mind that just didn't want to chill and stay present - but I loved it.

When we came back home, I landed a role in philanthropy and events in the charity sector for a hugely worthwhile cause. I continued to work in the charity sector - through the pandemic lockdowns and strange set ups working from home for months on end - practicing yoga in the evenings as my wind-down after work. Initially, the focus of my daily practice was around improving my strength, flexibility and mobility. But after a while, I began to notice all that the practice was giving me emotionally and mentally too. Stepping onto my mat gave me a space to be challenged and to recognise thoughts and feelings that were rising to the surface, connecting with myself on different levels. It also became a sanctuary for me - my place to find peace, calm and gratitude. It became part of my every day life.
My daughter was born in 2023 and her arrival, after what had been a turbulent few years for the whole world, really led to a major shift in my priorities and what I wanted out of life. I started to believe that it was time to do something that truly lights me up and allows me to give back to others.
After being convinced by my wonderfully supportive family that my 'blue sky thinking' dream of becoming a yoga teacher could actually become reality, I embarked on The House of Yoga's 200 hour yoga teacher training in September 2024, graduating the following March. It really did feel like a transformational seven months, and I knew I'd found my calling. The programme specialised in power vinyasa, and I love practicing and teaching strong, creative flows.
While studying for my 200 hour course, I also completed an 85 hour pre and post natal yoga qualification. I practiced yoga throughout my pregnancy and postpartum and it was pure magic for helping me tap into my intuition, connect with my body and my baby, and give me a sense of calm and ease to carry me through childbirth and postpartum. It's a privilege to be able to help other mamas feel the same.

In my classes, I always incorporate ancient yogic practices including pranayama (breathwork), drishti (gaze and focus), and engagement of the bandhas (energetic locks) to honour yoga's roots and to inspire students to come out of their heads and into their bodies and hearts - which is ultimately what the wider practice of yoga is all about. I have been trained in offering hands-on assists to guide students into alignment, offer greater stability and help them to unlock and understand the benefits of the postures in my sequence. I like to move around the room as I teach so I can really connect with the students in the room, and to observe and guide as needed.

I can promise that my passion for yoga will always shine through in my classes, and I feel grateful every day that I get to share the deep joys and challenges of this ancient practice with others.
On that note...I look forward to seeing you on the mat!
